Quick Recipe for your resume

Many people believe in relations commonly known as PR (personal relations) and some believe in skills. Only few of them believe that resume has its own impression and it is the first thing that show you when you are not in front physically. Resume writing is an art; the better your resume is ….. Better your chances for an interview. We will continue with an example so that it will help you understanding things better.

Let’s take an example of Computer Networks student and start perceiving the fields he can apply. Under mentioned is the list where he can apply

1. Software Houses

2. Telecom sector

3. Consultancy firms

4. Educational institutions

5. Generically all companies

What we need to understand is that every sector has its own demands. The reason being, one should prepare his/her resume by understanding their needs and demands. If you are not well aware of industry’s demand and have sent your general resume then there are bright chances that you will miss interviewee list. First try to find specific sector’s demand, you can easily find these demands from their website or by calling their HR department.

Once you have their needs and demands list, update your resume in accordance with their demands. Your resume must have some or all under mentioned segments.

1. Objective

2. Skill Set

3. Education

4. Trainings

5. Certifications

6. Experience

7. References

More segments can be added with respect to your expertise and field of job. Try to find latest resume styles but those should be readable and professional. While making resume, let’s have my advice – Never write Lie in your resume because you will be answerable for what so ever you write in it. Furthermore, try to be as concise as you can without leaving basic demands of the employer and your major expertise. In last, I like to give a secret to you

“Employers usually look for men rather supermen so please don’t prepare education and expertise zoo in your resume. Be specific”

JOB INTERVIEW TIPS

Interviewer is neither your friend nor your enemy. He just likes to know you in a very short period of time. Your career is not only thing on stake; his reputation too is. Today’s market is little more inclined toward employers as compared to job seekers. When you are on interview table; consider yourself in war field because Interview is an art that need combination of patience, understanding, knowledge and communication skills. If you are well equipped with these tools; you can over shine your interviewer.

Every hiring manager looks for four basic needs that must be met before brunching into further technical assessments. These needs are as follows

  1. Your attitude toward Job
  2. Are you going to stay for a period of time?
  3. How much you cost them?
  4. Analyze your need with his needs

Be cautious at these sorts of questions and do never give hardcore figures and demands but some diplomatic standpoint. Afterwards, Interviewer usually ask basic questions like

  1. Tell me about yourself
  2. What do you know about this company
  3. Why you are choosing this company
  4. Why leaving your parent company
  5. What are your interests and hobbies

These sorts of questions usually are the key of your success and failure. People usually take these questions very lightly but let me again tell you to prepare well for these questions especially first question i.e. Tell me about yourself. This question is an opportunity for you to totally change the mood of interviewer. Your answer drives your whole next interview. Try to give him detailed answer of this question and focus on professionalism rather telling him stories about your girl friends and pets. He will be least interested in your girlfriends and wife; I am not leaving exceptions for some special interviewers or job fields. Try to give him full exposure of your skills, knowledge areas, future plans and your interest in current job. The better you answer this question; the better will be your chances of winning. The next is your skill and knowledge area assessment level. You need to focus well on your strength and try to answer well and be straight forward in telling him that you don’t know answer for few questions and excuse him for that rather bluffing him.

Employer usually asks you to pose some questions at the end of the interview. Do not hesitate to ask any question but question should be job related and intelligent. Let me quote a question for you

  • As you know that I am really looking for better career curve. Leaving the salary and perks part aside; I just like to know about the knowledge curve you are offering me other then financial side.

At the end, I must say that we are here to exert our efforts with loyalty and you must not lose hope due to few bad interviews. Learn from your past interview failures and fly toward next by eliminating the past mistakes.

GOOD LUCK
